Baseball Tripped up Late in Series at Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball dropped a pair of games on Saturday at Southeastern Oklahoma State, including a walk-off in the series finale as the Savage Storm rallied to win the series 2-1.

SWOSU (14-10, 12-9 GAC) returns to action on Tuesday at Cameron before hosting Arkansas Tech next weeknd in Weatherford.

Game 1: Southeastern 9, SWOSU 7
A six-run third inning was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome in the opener as they fell behind 8-2 before scoring coming back within two in the ninth inning. SWOSU had nine hits in the game, including home runs from Alex Bedard and Keyshaun Smith, who both had two-hit games along with Ryan Dos Santos.

Matt Hopkins (3-1) was roughed up for eight runs on five hits in the first three innings, with four strikeouts and four walks. Grant Ewy steadied things with six strikeouts over the next 4.1 innings before Chase Hamilton struck out both runners he faced.

Game 2: Southeastern 11, SWOSU 8
The Bulldogs scored all eight of their runs via home run in the series finale on Saturday, but it was a grand slam by Southeastern in the bottom of the seventh that was the difference as the Savage Storm scored five runs in the final inning for a walkoff win.

Brooks Red and Smith hit solo home runs in the second and fourth innings, respectively, before Bedard clubbed a grand slam of his own in the fifth inning to tie the game at 6-6. Griffin Larsen got his chance to go yard in the sixth and hit came through with a two-run bomb, which put SWOSU up 8-6, a lead they would maintain until the bottom of the seventh.

Vance Ferraro and Haden Branch combined to strike out six and allowed seven runs on eight hits over the first 6.1 innings of action. Ryan Hildner (4-1) was called on in relief and took the loss after being tagged for four runs on four consecutive hits.
