Bulldogs Drop High-Scoring Game at Northeastern State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball saw a 10-7 advantage evaporate in the ninth inning on Tuesday as Northeastern State scored four runs in the ninth inning for an 11-10 walkoff victory over the Bulldogs at Rousey Field in Tahlequah.

Alex Bedard homered to leadoff the game and put SWOSU on top, but NSU would score the next six runs and led 6-1 after the third inning. A big Bulldog rally ensued, however, as Brooks Red got an RBI single in the sixth before the Dawgs put six on the board in the seventh inning to regain the lead. Griffin Larsen hit a two-run homer in the inning while Red and Keyshawn Smith doubled as SWOSU put up six runs on five hits to take an 8-6 lead.

The Riverhawks scored one run in the bottom of the eighth, but a solo homer by Drew White and an RBI double from Larsen gave the Bulldogs two insurance runs and a 10-7 lead heading into the bottom half of the final frame.

In the ninth, a leadoff walk was issued and NSU had back-to-back singles, the second of which scored a run, before adding to scoring two runs on sacrifice flies to tie the game with two outs. After a wild pitch put runners on second and third, NSU got the walkoff single into right field to end the game.

SWOSU had plenty of impressive numbers offensively with 10 runs on 15 hits and nine RBI scattered throughout the lineup. White, Red and Larsen each had three hits apiece, with Red and Larsen each totaling three RBI. Bedard and Miguel Soto had two hits and one RBI apiece and combined for three runs scored.

The Bulldogs used five pitchers in the game, with Ryan Hildner getting the start and Grant Ewy and Haden Branch tossing 3.0 innings apiece. Chase Hamilton (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits and two walks in the ninth.

SWOSU will carry their 9-8 record into this weekend's series against East Central, which will be played on Friday-Saturday, April 2-3, in Weatherford.
