SWOSU Baseball Dominant in Series Sweep of Ouachita

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball allowed a combined three runs while scoring 22 in a three-game sweep of Ouachita on Friday-Saturday at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.

With the wins, SWOSU runs their win streak to four straight games while improving to 9-4 on the year and 8-4 in Great American Conference play. The Bulldogs will be on the road Tuesday to face USAO in Chickasha before venturing to Arkadelphia, Ark., next weekend for a conference series at Henderson State.

Game 1: SWOSU 7, Ouachita 2

The series started with a gem on the mound from SWOSU's ace pitcher, Nate Postlethwait, who allowed just two hits and one run while striking out 10 Tiger batters over the course of seven innings. His strong pitching allowed the Bulldogs to build a 5-0 lead after three innings and match Ouachita run-for-run over the course of the final six frames.

SWOSU got a two-run single from Alex Bedard in the second inning followed by a two-run single by Taylan Mullins-Ohm in the third as they went on top 5-0 after three. Bedard had a single and triple later in the game, with each leading to a run as the senior finished 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI. Zach Baxley and Griffin Larsen each added two hits apiece, with Larsen also scoring twice.

Postlethwait improves to 4-0 on the year with the win. He was relieved by Ryan Hildner, who struck out two and allowed no hits over the final 2.0 innings.

Game 2: SWOSU 5, Ouachita 1

The Bulldogs fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third inning, but quickly answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and all five of their runs in the next two innings as they finished off the doubleheader sweep on Friday.

Marc Gonzales got the scoring started with an RBI single in the third before Miguel Soto hit a two-run triple, which Baxley followed with a sacrifice fly to score Soto. Gonzales then got into the sacrifice game in the fourth, scoring Keshaun Smith from third on a sac fly that made it 5-1.

Vance Ferraro (1-0) took it from there, striking out five while allowing five hits and just one earned run in a complete-game effort.

Game 3: SWOSU 10, Ouachita 0 (8 inn.)

Saturday's series finale began and ended with RBI singles from Soto, scoring Bedard each time as the Dawgs ended the game an inning early with a walkoff, run-rule victory. The Bulldogs scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, despite being held off the scoreboard until the sixth inning, when they scored two more runs before putting up two in the eighth to invoke the run-rule.

SWOSU had 12 hits in the game, getting three-hit games from Bedard, Soto and Drew White, while Taylan Mullins-Ohm, Ryan Dos Santos and Brayden Whitchurch each had hits as well. Bedard and Soto had three RBI and scored twice each, while White had two RBI and was the lone player in the lineup who didn't score in the game.

The Bulldogs got another strong outing from the pitching staff as Matt Hopkins (2-0) allowed four hits while striking out eight over 7.0 innings before Haden Branch worked around a leadoff walk to get three straight outs in the eighth.
