Freshmen Fuel Bulldogs in Win over East Central

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Behind a combined 25 kills and .500 hitting percentage from the freshmen duo of Samantha Kuzma and Lacy Mott, the SWOSU Volleyball team defeated East Central 3-0 on Wednesday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
The Bulldogs needed extra points to win the first set 28-26 before finishing off the match with set wins of 25-21 and 25-22. SWOSU had at least 15 kills and hit .230 or better in each set while holding ECU to 13 or few kills in each and the Tigers had their best hitting of the match at .242 in the second.

SWOSU was led by Mott, who finished with 15 kills and eight digs, and Kuzma, who had 10 kills while not committing an attack error in the match. Chezney Nielsen added 11 kills and tied for team-high honors with nine digs. Allie Hoang had a team-high 39 assists to go along with nine digs and Emma Cohalla led the Dawgs with four blocks (one solo, three assist).

"It's great to have that first win and have it at home and get to play in front of some fans," SWOSU Head Coach Josh Collins said. "I was excited to see Sam and Lacy have some success tonight and I think they can continue to build on that. They're both really good kids who work extremely hard, they play with poise and play older than they are."

Following their first win of the year, Bulldog Volleyball returns to action in one week, hosting Oklahoma Baptist next Wednesday, February 10. First serve of that match is set for 7:00 pm at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
