WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Soccer team had no trouble beating arch-rival Northwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday, shutting out the Rangers 2-0 at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
In what was a low scoring defensive showdown in the early going, it seemed no goals would be scored in the first half. That all changed in the final minute of the first half as SWOSU got on the board first, with a goal scored by Brianna Benitz, assisted by
Brenna McGuirk, that put the Bulldogs up 1-0 at halftime.
SWOSU took nine shots, compared to Northwestern only taking one shot and three of those nine shots were on goal. SWOSU had three corner kicks, but could not execute and came up empty with those three attempts.
The scoring continued 12 minutes into the second half,
Micaela Swain scored a goal, assisted by
Juliana Rocha, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage against the Rangers. SWOSU defended well and won the game 2-0.
SWOSU had 19 shots and six of those shots were on goal. Northwestern had six shots with two on goal, both of which were stopped by goalkeeper
Kirstyn Dill.
The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 on the season and are 1-0 in conference play. SWOSU Soccer returns to the pitch next Sunday, March 7, at 1 pm, hosting Ouachita back at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
