WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Men's Basketball was held scoreless for the final 2:10 and Oklahoma Baptist scored the final seven points to defeat the Bulldogs 84-78 on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford.
SWOSU came out firing and built a 10-point lead less than six minutes into the game, going ahead 16-6 in the early going before OBU slowly chipped away at the advantage and pulled even at 38-all going into the locker room. On the first possession of the second half, the Bison took their first lead of the game and they led for 15:57 of the final 20 minutes, which featured seven ties and seven lead changes.
The game was tied at 71-71 with 4:31 to play after a basket by
Chris Braggs, Jr., but OBU got three-pointers on two straight possessions to lead 77-71 with 3:42 remaining. SWOSU scored the next seven points, taking the lead on another basket by Braggs with 2:10 to play, but that would be the final scoring for the Dawgs. OBU closed out the game with the final seven points and SWOSU missed their last four field goal attempts.
Tauriawn Knight led the way for SWOSU with 21 points and three rebounds while Braggs tied a season-high with 17 points and
Damion Thornton chipped in 15 points and a team-leading six rebounds.
Following their third straight setback, SWOSU falls to 6-7 on the year heading into Monday night's makeup rivalry matchup with Northwestern Oklahoma State. That game is set for a 7:30 pm tipoff at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford.
