EDMOND, Okla. – Bulldog Baseball dropped a 7-2 decision to Emporia State on Saturday in the second game of the Edmond First Pitch Classic. SWOSU drops to 1-1 on the year heading into the final game of opening weekend, which will be at 1:00 pm on Sunday against Missouri Southern.
The game was scoreless through five innings before Emporia State scored four runs on three hits while also taking advantage of a SWOSU error to go up 4-0 in the sixth. The Hornets added a two-run single in the eighth to make it 6-0 before the Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom half of the inning when
Drew White scored during a double play. ESU hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth and SWOSU answered with an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of
Miguel Soto which scored
Carter Allen.
SWOSU finished with seven hits in the game, getting three from
Drew White and two apiece from
Brayden Whitchurch and
Adam Theis. White and
Carter Allen scored the Bulldogs runs while
Miguel Soto had one RBI.
Carter Hogan started the game for SWOSU and struck out three while allowing just two hits over 5.0 innings of work.
Dakota Jones (0-1) took the decision after allowing six runs – five earned – on six hits in the sixth and seventh innings before
Haden Branch and
Zeke Dougan closed out the game.
