Dawgs Drop Conference Opener

BETHANY, Okla. – SWOSU Volleyball fell in straight sets at Southern Nazarene on Tuesday evening in their first Great American Conference match of the season.

The Bulldogs led late in the first set at 23-22, but SNU scored the next three points to finish off the set and take hold of the momentum. SNU led wire-to-wire in the second set and overcame two early leads for SWOSU in the third, using a big seven-point run in the middle of the set to break things open before closing it out at 25-18.

SNU held the advantage in just about every statistic, with SWOSU's only advantages coming in blocks (8.0-7.0) and service aces (4-2). The Crimson Storm put down 15 more kills than SWOSU and more than doubled the attack efficiency, hitting at a .233 clip for the match compared to .106 for the Dawgs.

Maicee Morgan was the lone bright spot offensively, hitting .225 with 12 kills on 40 swings in her first conference match. Chezney Nielsen finished with nine kills and eight digs while Sofia Gruden added four kills and a team-best four blocks. Kaitlyn Dillon led the Dawgs with 15 digs and Allie Hoang directed the offense with a team-high 28 assists.

SWOSU (4-6, 0-1 GAC) now has a week off before returning to action next Tuesday (Sept. 24), hosting East Central at 7:00 pm inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
