WEATHERFORD, Okla. – On the strength of two first-half goals and a stout defensive performance, the SWOSU Soccer team defeated Midwestern State by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
Just under 12 minutes into the game, SWOSU got on the board as freshman
Micaela Swain fired a shot that ricocheted off a Mustang defender and found the back of the net to put the Dawgs up 1-0. One of her freshman counterparts,
Claire Torry, had the second score as she fired off a long attempt that also found the net early in the 32nd minute to make it a 2-0 advantage, which is where the score would remain until halftime.
SWOSU continued on the attack early in the second half, but it was MSU who got the lone goal of the period as Senna Garcia scored in the 69th minute to make it a one-goal game. The Mustangs would pressure SWOSU into the final minutes, with several shots sent away by the Bulldog defense before
Kirstyn Dill had to make the save. Dill finished with one save in the contest and picked up her second collegiate victory in goal.
The victory evens the Bulldogs record at 2-2 on the year heading into a weekend road trip to California, which will see SWOSU face Cal State-Monterey Bay and Holy Names this weekend.
