WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Athletic Department hosted the 2018-19 All-Sports Banquet on Wednesday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center to celebrate the past year in Bulldog Athletics. Among the awards presented at the banquet were the Athletes of the Year, which went to
Nathan Hatchel of the SWOSU Rodeo team and Lady Bulldog All-Americans
Hayden Priddy &
Hailey Tucker, who shared the honor of Female Athlete of the Year.
Other honors handed out on Wednesday were the Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, which were presented to Brandon Roe (football) and Erica Brunet (soccer) for the second consecutive year. SWOSU Athletic Director
Todd Thurman also presented the Cecil Perkins Service Award to local businessman Stan Garrison in appreciation for his long-standing support of the athletic programs.
Nathan Hatchel (Hennessey, Okla.) becomes the second member of the SWOSU Rodeo team to be named Male Athlete of the Year since the school transitioned to NCAA Division II and the first since Hall of Famer Jet McCoy in 2000-01. Already a two-time qualifier for the College National Finals Rodeo, Hatchel saved his best season for his last, winning two rodeos in Bull Riding this spring while finishing either first or second place in the average at seven-of-nine rodeos completed this year. With those results, he has built a commanding lead over the rest of the Central Plains Region and he enters the final rodeo of the year as the top-ranked Bull Rider in all of college rodeo with more than 1,000 points to his credit.

The Cecil Perkins Service Award was presented to Stan Garrison on Wednesday evening. A native of Cordell, Garrison attended SWOSU in the late 1970's, earning a degree in Accounting in 1979. In college, he began developing rental properties, which led to his establishing of Garrison Rentals, which owns and operates several properties in Weatherford. Garrison was a founding member of the current version of the SWOSU Athletic Association, which has led to increased fundraising for the department along with an improved engagement with the teams and student-athletes. Garrison is a mainstay in the stands supporting the SWOSU Athletic programs at home and on the road while volunteering to cook meals for the teams multiple times throughout the year.
