Softball Falls Short on Friday at UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark. – SWOSU Softball suffered a pair of close losses on Friday afternoon, falling to Arkansas-Monticello in the first two games of a four-game Great American Conference series.

SWOSU (2-11, 1-5 GAC) will look to salvage a split of the series on Saturday when they play another pair of games against the Cotton Blossoms beginning at 12:00 pm

Game 1: UAM 3, SWOSU 0
Box Score

Each team had five hits in the opener, but SWOSU left four runners on base as they were unable to push a run across. Kecia Welbourne was 2-for-3 at the plate while Hannah Morris, Allyson Gafford and Sidney Kirk also recorded base hits for the Dawgs.

Kaytlin Donaldson (2-4) allowed just three hits in 4.0 innings, but three runs allowed were enough for UAM to take the game. Alisa Friesen pitched effectively in the final two innings, allowing two hits and no runs.

Game 2: UAM 4, SWOSU 3
Box Score

All three of SWOSU's runs came on home runs, with Samantha Householder getting the party started with a two-run shot to left center in the first inning before Hannah Morris slugged a solo shot to right in the top of the sixth. In between, however, UAM rallied for four runs, taking the lead on a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning that proved to be the difference.

Morris and Householder were each 2-for-3 in the game and accounted for all four Bulldog hits and all three runs scored in the game. Alisa Friesen (0-6) pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and four runs – three earned – while striking out three Blossom batters.
