WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After allowing just four points in the first eight minutes of action against Henderson State on Thursday, the SWOSU defense was torched for 100 points over the final 32 minutes as the Reddies pulled away for a 104-78 victory at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
Several players contributed in the early minutes as the Bulldogs built a 13-2 lead just over six minutes into the contest on a three-pointer by
Kamden Gipson. HSU would not get their second basket until the 12:00 mark exactly and they never looked back. The Reddies scored the final eight points of the first half, taking a 42-34 lead at the break that ballooned to 62-41 with 14:41 to play.
Henderson State connected on 54.1% of their field goal attempts and hit 13 three-pointers while connecting at a 44.8% clip. SWOSU countered with 38.3% shooting from the field and hit just 9-of-29 three-pointers, but they did succeed at getting to the free throw line, hitting 23-of-30 attempts from the charity stripe.
Tre Evans led the Bulldogs with 29 points on 7-of-16 shooting while
Nick Shoemaker knocked down 4-of-5 three-point attempts, good for 14 points to go along with five rebounds.
SWOSU (4-21, 1-18 GAC) will honor the senior members of the squad prior to tipoff against Ouachita on Saturday afternoon in Weatherford.
