WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The 2019 SWOSU Soccer season came to an end on Friday as the Bulldogs were defeated 4-1 by #4 Central Missouri in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Central Regional Championships.
SWOSU scored the first goal of the match as
Brenna McGuirk played a cross in front of the net and
Micaela Swain headed it past the Jennies goalkeeper to make it 1-0 less than 15 minutes into the match. UCM would take advantage of Bulldog miscues to score two first-half goals, the first on a penalty kick after a foul in the box and the second off a free kick. UCM added two goals in the second half, one coming after a goalkeeper deflection and the final set up off a corner kick.
The Bulldogs totaled 11 shots in the match with five on goal, two apiece from Swain and
Sandra Nabweteme along with one from
Hannah Burks.
Kirstyn Dill made five saves in the match, but the Dawgs allowed a season-high five goals to UCM.
SWOSU Soccer continued their strong run of performance over the past decade, finishing the 2019 season with a 13-5-3 record. The Bulldogs reached the 10-win mark for the fifth consecutive season and seventh in the past eight years while reaching the NCAA National Tournament for the third time.
