LUBBOCK, Texas – Behind 22 points from
Maddie Sperle and 20 from
Makyra Tramble, the #20-ranked SWOSU Women's Basketball team defeated St. Mary's on Friday afternoon at the Lubbock Christian Classic.
SWOSU scored 27 points in the first quarter and nearly had the Rattlers doubled up before St. Mary's closed to within 47-41 at halftime. St. Mary's got within one point early in the third quarter before a 7-0 run pushed the lead back out to eight and SWOSU led 68-59 at the end of three. The Lady Dawgs finished off the game by hitting 6-of-15 shots from the field as they outscored the Rattlers 18-14 in the fourth quarter.
Sperle led the way for SWOSU with 22 points while hitting 10-of-17 field goal attempts. Tramble added 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting while
Bethany Franks had 14 points and eight rebounds while
Taber Beer chipped in 13 points and six assists.
Tyra Aska pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to offset a bad shooting night.
After improving to 3-0 on the year, SWOSU now prepares for a rematch of the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship game when they face No. 2/1-ranked Lubbock Christian on their home floor tomorrow night at 7:30 pm.
