WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU's
Allie Hoang and
Kaitlyn Dillon combined for nine service aces as they led the Bulldog Volleyball team to a convincing 3-0 sweep of Ouachita on Friday evening inside Rankin Williams Fieldhouse.
SWOSU, playing in the facility that served as their home from 2006-13, came out firing and won the first set 25-15 with a strong offensive performance of 15 kills with just two attack errors. The Bulldogs fell behind 8-4 in the early going of the second set before taking the set over at the service line. Dillon got an ace that made it 8-6 before Hoang took to the line with her team trailing 9-7. From that point, she served up five consecutive aces and the Dawgs scored seven straight points on her serve and never looked back, pulling away to win the set 25-16 for the 2-0 lead.
The third set was the most closely contested, featuring six ties and two lead changes but SWOSU found themselves leading 17-12 following a kill from
Jenny Tackett. Ouachita would close the gap twice late in the set, including at 22-all before
Sofia Gruden got a kill to break the tie and
Maicee Morgan finished off the match with consecutive kills to end it at 25-22.
Morgan led the way for SWOSU with 16 kills and four digs while hitting efficiently with just two attack errors and a .412 hitting percentage.
Emily Wood added another double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs while
Brylee Burroughs had nine kills and two blocks. As a team, SWOSU hit .248 for the match with 46 kills and 13 attack errors, three of which came on blocks by the Tigers.
Allie Hoang also recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs in addition to her five service aces while Dillon had a team-high 17 digs to go along with her four aces and three assists.
SWOSU has now won six consecutive Great American Conference matches, improving to 8-2 in league play, which is good for second place in the league standings. The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday, hosting Henderson State at 1:00 pm inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
