FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jaylan Williams scored 13 points and
Damion Thornton added 12, leading the Bulldogs during a 78-51 exhibition defeat against NCAA Division I Arkansas on Friday night at Bud Walton Arena.
SWOSU shot 31.3% from the field and connected on 6-of-26 three-point attempts in the game. The Bulldogs led twice in the game and tied it up at 11-11 less than six minutes into the game, but Arkansas scored the next seven points and went on lead 40-27 at the break. The Razorbacks then held SWOSU to 5-of-22 shooting from the field in the second half and outscored the Dawgs 38-24 to provide for the final margin.
Williams and Thornton – two of SWOSU's 12 newcomers this season – combined for 25 points while seven other players got in on the scoring action, including
Marquis Johnson with nine points and
Bralyn James with eight.
Livingston Cleare led the Dawgs with seven rebounds and
Kamden Gipson had a team-high four assits.
SWOSU opens the regular season in two weeks at the GAC / MIAA Challenge in Russellville, Ark., taking on Emporia State (Nov. 8) and Fort Hays State (Nov. 9).
