ALVA, Okla. – Recently named GAC Offensive Player of the Week
Sandra Nabweteme scored twice to lift the SWOSU Soccer team to a 3-2 rivalry win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday night in Alva.
While Nabweteme scored twice, it was
Brenna McGuirk who got the Dawgs on the board first as she beat Northwestern's keeper in the ninth minute to make it 1-0. Less than 10 minutes later, Nabweteme took a pass from
Brianna Benitez and beat the keeper to make it 2-0, which is where it would stay until the Rangers got on the board in the 35
th minute.
Nabweteme scored the first goal of the second half off an assists from
Micaela Swain, which proved to be crucial insurance once the Rangers scored in the final five minutes to make it a one-goal game. SWOSU had a slight edge in shots (21-19) and hsots on goal (11-9), which helped to the ultimate advantage on the scoreboard.
Kirstyn Dill made five saves and earned the victory in goal.
SWOSU, now 8-4-1 on the year, moves into the top spot in the Great American Conference standings at 5-1-1 in league play. Next up for the Dawgs is a Homecoming matchup against East Central, which starts at 10:00 am on Saturday from the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
