Soccer Defeats East Central for First Conference Win

ADA, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer traveled to Ada on Wednesday and picked up their first Great American Conference win of the season by defeating East Central 2-1. The Bulldogs are now 4-3-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in league play.

East Central put the first shot on goal of the match in the 10th minute and had the shot saved by Bulldog goalie Kirstyn Dill, but the ball bounced back to ECU's Cheyenne Gragg who beat Dill for the first goal of the match. It took SWOSU until the final seconds of the first half to tie things up at 1-1 when Tianna Watkins beat the Tigers keeper off an assists from Elizabeth Moreno.

Sandra Nabweteme had two attempts early in the second half, the first of which hit the post before Micaela Swain fed it back to Nabweteme, who scored her seventh goal of the season that would prove to be the game winner. Nabweteme led the Dawgs with seven shot attempts, helping SWOSU to an advantage of 19-17 in shots while ECU had the advantage with 10-6 in shots on goal.

After allowing the first goal, Dill bounced back strongly in goal and made nine saves to help her team earn the win.

SWOSU Soccer is back at home twice next week, hosting Harding (Oct. 10) and Ouachita (Oct. 12) at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.
