Cold Shooting Night Leads to Bulldogs Road Loss

Box Score (html)

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After falling behind by 20 points in the first half against Southern Arkansas, SWOSU battled back to within three in the second half before the Muleriders pulled away for a 76-64 victory on Thursday night in Magnolia.

SWOSU struggled from the field throughout, but especially in the first half as they had just 10 points with five minutes to play until halftime. The Bulldogs finished the half on a 14-6 run to get within 12 at halftime, which was good for momentum which carried over early in the second half.

A Nick Shoemaker three-pointer with 11:38 to play made it a one-score game at 42-39, but the next eight points went to SAU which allowed the Muleriders to stem the tide and push their lead back to double digits. SWOSU managed to get back within eight on two occasions, but they could get no further and SAU extended their lead in the final few minutes.

Tre Evans led SWOSU with 25 points and 14 rebounds, good for his fifth double-double of the season. Kamden Gipson added 12 points and no other player had more than nine points in the game. SWOSU shot just 29.2% (19-of-65) from the field and 20.0% (6-of-30) for their second-worst shooting night of the season.

SWOSU drops to 4-15 on the year and 1-12 in Great American Conference play. They'll conclude their current road trip on Saturday at Arkansas-Monticello.
