SWOSU Blanks Bison in Friday Opener

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – In not so ideal conditions for baseball, the Bulldogs managed nine hits and tallied five runs in a 5-0 shutout over Oklahoma Baptist in game one of the conference series. Starting pitcher Cooper Cantwell threw his second consecutive complete game shutout in the process, striking out nine and walking just one.

SWOSU came out ready to play, opening the game with four hits in the first inning and plated three runs in the first inning. Three-straight RBI hits from Alex Pimentel, Brooks Benson, and Jason Nichols produced runs and after inning number one, the Dawgs led 3-0.

With the wind howling straight in from the outfield, no sun, and unusually cold temperatures at the SWOSU Athletic Complex, Cantwell did what he was supposed to on the mound and pounded the strike zone all day. Cantwell (W, 5-3) went the distance and now hasn't allowed a run in 17 straight innings of work for the Dawgs.

Meanwhile, the offense supplied single runs of insurance in the fourth and eighth innings to allow even more breathing room for Cantwell to work with.

Chase Duncan and Bryan Miranda led the lineup with a pair of hits, while Benson supplied the lone extra-base hit in the first inning when he doubled down the line to drive in a run.

Saturday's (April 7) doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 1 pm in Weatherford. If any changes to the schedule are made, you can visit www.swosuathletics.com or follow @SWOSUAthletics on Twitter to keep updated.
