ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Facing a sweep at the hands of Ouachita after dropping game one 5-3 on Saturday, SWOSU Baseball came away with a 7-2 victory over the Tigers in the series finale.
The Bulldogs (22-20, 16-12 GAC) close out the regular season next weekend at home against rival Northwestern with a chance to clinch a berth in the Great American Conference Tournament the following week.
Game One

Much like Ouachita did all weekend, the Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the first inning after plating three runs. SWOSU wouldn't get on the board until the fourth inning when they manufactured a run by bunting
Chase Duncan (who reached on a hit by pitch) over and getting him in with a sacrifice fly.
An inning later,
Marion McLean got the Dawgs within one with a rare inside the park home run. Trailing just 3-2 now, Ouachita answered back with another pair of runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead. An RBI single by
Jason Nichols in the seventh inning got a run back for SWOSU, but that would be the final scoring for the Dawgs in game one.
Tyler Tuck (L, 2-4) was charged with the loss after pitching 4.0 innings and allowing nine hits and three runs.
Justin Moreno came on in relief and threw the game's final 4.0 innings and he surrendered a pair of runs himself. Both arms struck out two Tigers.
Offensively, SWOSU was outhit 12-6 on the scoreboard and was led by McLean and
Alex Pimentel who each tallied two hits.

Ouachita gifted SWOSU three baserunners in the first inning of the series finale, hitting two Bulldog hitters and walking a third – all with one out. A
Daniel Richardson sacrifice fly and
Brady Burtner double plated a combined three runs and the Dawgs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead.
The Tigers answered with two runs of their own in the home half of the first inning, but from that point on SWOSU starting pitcher
Jose Laboy kept the Ouachita hitters from scoring any more runs and allowed just two hits from the second inning on.
Walks again sparked a scoring inning for SWOSU in the third inning and the Dawgs managed to score two more runs and extend their lead. The scoring concluded with another two runs of insurance in the seventh inning when
Alex Pimentel doubled in
Bryan Miranda and
Chase Duncan who both singled before him.
Laboy (W, 2-2) finished with a complete game and three strikeouts, while allowing four hits and the two first-inning runs. SWOSU notched six hits in the game on offense and were led by Burtner who finished 2-for-3 at the dish.
