Bulldogs Downed by No. 13 West Texas A&M in Tournament Finale

Box Score (html)

CANYON, Texas – After a one-day break due to weather, SWOSU Softball returned to action on Sunday afternoon at the West Texas A&M Invitational, where they dropped a 13-3 decision to the tournament-host, No. 13-ranked West Texas A&M.

Sidney Kirk got SWOSU on the board with a two-out RBU double to right field, scoring Samantha Householder to put the Dawgs up 1-0 after one-half inning of play. The lead would be short-lived, however, with West Texas A&M getting two runs on two hits while taking advantage of two SWOSU errors in the bottom of the first.

After the Bulldogs were retired in order in the second inning, they ran into trouble defensively as WT hit a three-run home run as part of an eight-run second inning that put the Lady Buffs in complete control with a 10-1 lead. SWOSU got two unearned runs back in the third before WT added three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to push the game back into run-rule territory.

The Bulldogs had six hits in the game, with Kirk coming through with the lone RBI. Kirk (0-2) also got the start in the pitching circle and took the loss after allowing five runs on four hits in 1.1 innings of work.

SWOSU (0-4) returns to action on Tuesday (Feb. 13) with a non-conference doubleheader in Edmond against Oklahoma Christian beginning at 1:00 pm.
