SHAWNEE, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer's Great American Conference tournament ended in heartbreaking fashion, falling 3-2 to Oklahoma Baptist in overtime of the championship match, on Saturday at the OBU Soccer Complex.
The Bison got things going early placing a ball in the top corner of the goal in the 13th minute taking a 1-0 lead. SWOSU would answer back minutes later as
Alimata Rabo dribbled through the defense and placed a pass to
Sandra Nabweteme in stride allowing her to put it by the Oklahoma Baptist goalkeeper. The two sides would lock into a defensive battle not allowing the other team to get many opportunities. The Bulldogs found themselves tied with the Bison 1-1 heading into the halftime locker room.
SWOSU came out of halftime on a mission going right on the attack from the start of the second half. It would not be long before the Bulldogs offensive pressure found success as
Alimata Rabo headed in a cross from the right wing in the 47th to put SWOSU ahead 2-1 early in the second half. The Bison would not go away easy answering in the 52nd minute to tie the game once again. SWOSU saw several more opportunities narrowly missing on several shots and the match would go to an overtime period.
Overtime would not last long however as Oklahoma Baptist put a corner kick into the back of the net after it bounced off several players.
The Bulldogs will await Monday's NCAA Division II selection show to see if their season will continue.
