Softball Finishes Sunday with Split at Ouachita

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – SWOSU Softball split Sunday's slate against Ouachita Baptist, falling in the opener 2-1, but bounced back to take the nightcap 4-2.

The Dawgs will be back in action on Monday to conclude the road trip with another doubleheader beginning at noon against the Tigers.

Game One
Ouachita Baptist 2, SWOSU 1
Box Score (html)

In a low scoring pitcher's duel, the Bulldogs came up short in the first game despite efforts from Taya Haney (L, 5-11) in the circle who pitched the entire way.

The lone offense came from Samantha Householder, a solo-shot homerun in the second inning that gave SWOSU an early 1-0 lead. It was Ouachita who scored the game's final two runs though, the game-tying in the fourth and the go-ahead in the sixth.

The bulldogs managed to tally just two hits in the contest.

Game Two
SWOSU 4, Ouachita Baptist 2
Box Score (html)

The Bulldogs scored runs in four of the game's seven innings, a single run each time. Samantha Householder and Kennedi Jackson provided RBI singles to plate the first two runs of the contest, giving SWOSU a 2-0 lead through two.

After Ouachita got a run back in the third, the Dawgs scratched another run in the fifth after a Sidney Kirk sacrifice fly and pushed the margin back to two at 3-1. Cheyenne Trotter finished the scoring for the day with a solo blast, her third of the year, to make it 4-1 in the sixth.

SWOSU's starting pitcher, Rileigh Ricken, allowed one more run in the bottom half but that would be all Ouachita would get and the Bulldogs left the field as game-two winners. The senior improved to 3-8 with the complete-game win and struck out three in the process.

Abigail Schade led the way in the batting lineup with a 3-for-4 performance while also scoring two runs herself.
