MONTICELLO, Ark. – SWOSU Softball lost to Arkansas-Monticello by scores of 11-1 and 7-2 on the opening day of the series Saturday. The two losses push the Dawgs' losing streak to six games after being swept by Southern Arkansas in four games last weekend.
Tomorrow's games have been pushed back an hour and will now start up at noon with the final contest of the series will begin shortly after the first game wraps up.
Game One
Arkansas-Monticello 11, SWOSU 1

The Cotton Blossoms wasted no time getting on the board in their first at bat, scoring three runs to take the early lead. They would follow that inning up with four runs in the second, taking a 7-1 lead.
SWOSU's lone run came in the top half of the second inning with a single off the bat of
Bailey King that allowed
Abigail Schade to score. The offense was stagnant for most of the game however, collecting only three hits on the afternoon.
UAM would score another run in the fourth and end in the game via run rule in the sixth with a three-run homerun down the left field line.
Taya Haney (L, 3-6) only pitched two outs of the first inning before being relieved by
Miranda Grover who got the final out but wouldn't return the following inning.
Kaytlin Donaldson went on to throw the final 4.2 innings, allowing four runs and striking out one.
Game Two
Arkansas-Monticello 7, SWOSU 2

SWOSU dug themselves too big of a hole to overcome, getting behind 7-0 before finally scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The offense began to show life, but waited until the fourth inning to do so after going down in order the first time through the lineup.
Defensively, the Dawgs were haunted by four errors that resulted in two unearned runs to cross home plate.
Keanni Barron was the only player to collect two hits while
Bailey King and
Tori Hawk drove in the two runs.
Rileigh Ricken (L, 0-5) pitched 4.0 innings and allowed all seven of the runs despite two of those being unearned.
Taylor Eaves finished the game's final two frames, striking out one while holding UAM scoreless.
