WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Lady Bulldogs ended the regular season with a victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Henderson State 80-69 to finish (19-9, 15-7 GAC) on the year.
Whitney Dunn, the lone senior honored during the pregame festivities, finished with a 10 point and 14 rebound effort to collect her fourth double-double of the season.
The Dawgs built an eight-point lead going into halftime by shooting 44.4% from the field while holding the Reddies to just 28.6%.
Hayden Priddy led SWOSU in scoring with 10 point and a perfect 2-2 from beyond the arc. Despite the halftime lead, SWOSU turned the ball over 14 times in the opening two quarters compared to only four from Henderson State.
The second half was a far less successful shooting half for the Dawgs, but the defense stepped up to hold HSU to a 32% field goal percentage in the final two quarters and for the game managed to hold the Reddies under 30% for the entire game. HSU outscored SWOSU by two points in the third quarter but the Dawgs would hold a +5 margin in the fourth quarter to beat Henderson by 11.
Savannah Gray finished two points shy of having all five of the Lady Bulldog starters in double figures as
Hailey Tucker tallied 19,
Tyra Aska scored 18 and
Hayden Priddy ended with 12. As a squad, SWOSU was also able to knock down 80% of their free throws on the day, shooting 20-for-25 from the charity stripe.
Sophomore
Hailey Tucker ended Saturday's contest just two points shy of the 1,000 career-point milestone and will have the opportunity to check that milestone off the list in her old high school gym.
SWOSU claimed the number three seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament held in Bartlesville, Okla. with the win and will play Southern Nazarene at 2:15 pm on March 3 in their first postseason game.
