Second-Half Surge Powers Lady Bulldogs over Crimson Storm

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball defeated Southern Nazarene 93-75 on Monday night to improve to 17-9 on the season and 13-7 in Great American Conference play. The Lady Bulldogs shot the long ball well all night and ended tied for the most three-point shots they have knocked down all year, shooting 16-for-35 (45.7%) from beyond the arc.
 
The first half was a stalemate between the teams as both sides traded baskets with six ties and three lead changes through the first two quarters. SWOSU and SNU were tied at 23-23 at the end of one and 40-40 by the end of the first half.
 
Out of the locker room, it was SWOSU who established themselves early by scoring 11 of the quarter's first 13 points to get out to a nine-point lead in the early going of the second half. The Dawgs would go on to outscore SNU by 11 in the 10-minute session and take an 11-point lead heading to the fourth.
 
In the fourth quarter, SWOSU shot their most efficient quarter of the contest at 57.1% and would outscore Southern Nazarene by seven by putting in a game high 28 points in the game's final 10-minute period.
 
The Dawg defense was on display on Monday, holding the Crimson Storm to under 30% shooting in both the second and fourth quarters while holding SNU to an overall 32% on the night. Hailey Tucker was extremely active on defense herself, swatting away a career high six shots while tying her career high of five steals.
 
On the other side of the ball, it was an evening of shared baskets as four Bulldogs tallied double digits in scoring while two others ended just one bucket shy of the 10-point mark. Hayden Priddy led the squad with 23 points while also assisting on six other scores, Tyra Aska followed with 17 points and six assists of her own, Tucker scored 16 and Savannah Gray rounded out the double digit scorers with 15. Both posts Whitney Dunn and Nicole Middleton added eight a piece.
 
The 93 point scoring night marked the highest point total the Lady Bulldogs have accumulated this season, surpassing the 90-point total that SWOSU has scored four times this year. The Dawgs managed to collect 20 assists on buckets in the game out of a total of 32 made field goals.   
 
SWOSU (17-9, 13-7 GAC) will play the final two games of the season at home against Ouachita and Henderson on Thursday and Saturday. From there, the Lady Dawgs will travel to Bartlesville, Okla. to take part in the GAC Postseason Tournament beginning on March 2 and going through the 5 with a tournament seeding still to be determined.
