WEATHERFORD, Okla. – East Central connected on 16 three-point attempts on Saturday and handed SWOSU an 88-74 defeat, the Lady Bulldogs first setback inside the Pioneer Cellular Event Center this season.
ECU jumped on the Lady Bulldogs from the outset, building a 14-point lead, 25-11, late in the first quarter after SWOSU led just once at 3-2. After trailing by 10 at the end of the first, SWOSU got within two in the closing seconds of the first half on a basket by
Hailey Tucker before ECU answered with a bucked and entered the intermission leading 40-36.
SWOSU again got within two, 46-44, with 7:01 to play in the third on a three-point play from
Tyra Aska, but East Central answered with a 16-3 run over the next four minutes to build their lead back up to 13 at 60-47. The Lady Bulldogs cut the deficit to nine, 63-54, at the end of the third and twice in the fourth quarter but they were unable to get any closer and ECU held a double-digit lead for the last 7:31 to finish off the game.
SWOSU was led by double-doubles from
Hailey Tucker (25 points, 11 rebounds) and
Hayden Priddy (12 points, career-high 17 rebounds), but the Lady Bulldogs shot just 37.3% (22-59) from the field and 20.0% (5-25) from three-point range. East Central, conversely, hit 45.5% of their field goal attempts and 16-of-27 three-pointers.
The loss is the second straight for SWOSU, who falls to 14-8 (10-6 GAC) on the year heading into a rivalry showdown on Monday night against Northwestern Oklahoma State. That game will tip off at 5:30 pm from the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
