Lady Bulldogs Rout Riverhawks for Sixth Straight Win

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Led by a double-double of 29 points and 11 rebounds from Hailey Tucker, the SWOSU Women's Basketball team rolled past Northeastern State for an 87-71 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
 
SWOSU led 21-12 at the end of the first quarter and scored the first 12 points of the second quarter, part of a 14-0 run that pushed the Lady Bulldogs lead to 33-12 midway through the second quarter. A pair of free throws from Bethany Franks in the final minute pushed the halftime advantage to 22 points with SWOSU up 42-20 at the break.
 
The Lady Bulldogs would run the lead as high as 29 points in the third quarter at 65-36 and they outscored NSU 25-20 in the third to lead 67-40 at the end of three. Northeastern State had runs of 7-0 and 6-0 in the fourth quarter, getting within 12 in the final three minutes before the Bulldogs hit free throws down the stretch to push the final margin back to 16.
 
SWOSU had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Tucker who posted a season-high 29 points after scoring 27 on Wednesday at Cameron. Hayden Priddy chipped in 13 points and six rebounds while Penina Faumui was effective with 12 points and six rebounds in just 10 minutes off the bench. Tyra Aska again filled out the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
 
The victory improves SWOSU to 6-0 on the year, continuing their best start in seven seasons. The Lady Bulldogs are also 2-0 in Great American Conference play, which resumes on Thursday in Russellville when SWOSU faces Arkansas Tech.
