Historic 2017 Soccer Season Comes to a Close

Box Score (html)

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – SWOSU Soccer's magical 2017 tournament run came to an end on Friday afternoon after falling 3-0 to the No. 1 team in the nation, Central Missouri, in the Central Region Championship match.

The Bulldogs were stymied by the top defense in all of NCAA Division II, failing to score against the Jennies despite taking 14 shots (six on goal) during the contest. Meanwhile, UCM tallied goals in the 33rd, 52nd, and 67th minutes to give the Jens more than enough scoring to earn the win and oust the Bulldogs from the tournament. The SWOSU loss snapped a 13 match unbeaten streak that they were riding, which began all the way back on September 30th.

SWOSU finishes the season with a 13-4-5 overall record and as the Great American Conference Tournament Champions. The Dawgs collected three postseason wins, while also adding a victory in dramatic penalty kicks to their postseason resume before finally losing. Their two wins during the NCAA Tournament marks the most victories SWOSU has ever tallied in the tournament, passing their previous mark of just one back in 2012.

The Bulldogs will lose seniors Shelley Mueller, Olivia Butler, Lauren Williams, and Kendall Harris to graduation next season, but will also return 23 players from the historic 2017 team in hopes of building upon what they achieved this season.
