WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Three second-half goals and a clean sheet on defense gave SWOSU Soccer a 3-0 victory over Southern Nazarene on Thursday afternoon as the Bulldogs went on to sweep the regular-season series against the Crimson Storm in the process.
A slow first half saw both teams with opportunities, but neither with results. The Bulldogs ended up outshooting Southern Nazarene 9-6 through the first 45 minutes, but only put one shot on goal compared to SNU's three.
Sandra Nabweteme came away with the game winner in the 56th minute, setup by teammate
Alimata Rabo after she was able to get deep inside the Crimson Storm box and dish out a pass to Nabweteme standing near the goalie box. Rabo then added two more goals to her season total in the 79th and 84th minutes, extending SWOSU's lead which evaporated any hope SNU had for a comeback.
The Bulldogs attack put pressure on Crimson Storm goalkeeper Ashlynn Pritchett in the second half, forcing her to make four saves to go along with the three other balls that were put past her.
Opposite of Pritchett was
Steffi Silvera, making her second start of the season in goal for SWOSU. Silvera ended with seven saves after facing 12 total shots and collected her second solo shutout on the year. Her seven saves ties fellow teammate
Lexie Bates' mark for most saves in a game in which the Bulldogs were victorious.
After Oklahoma Baptist defeated Northwestern on Wednesday and claimed the regular-season GAC title and the number-one postseason seed, SWOSU was tabbed the number-two seed by default. The pair will face off at 1 pm to conclude the regular season on Saturday in Weatherford, in a potential preview of the GAC Championship game.
