Dawgs Take Down Southwestern Christian in Straight Sets

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The SWOSU Volleyball team avenged an earlier defeat this season with a 3-0 victory over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday evening at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center. Set scores for the match were 25-21, 25-23, 25-19.
 
SWOSU hit .216 for the match with 48 kills on 139 swings with 18 attack errors. DeLayni Fine led the Bulldogs with 13 kills and a .303 hitting percentage and Danusia Sipa Borgeaud chipped in 10 kills against three errors for a .250 attack clip. Kodee Avery had the most efficient night with 33 assists, nine kills, seven digs and three blocks while hitting .438.
 
The Bulldogs defense forced Southwestern Christian into 16 attack errors and limited the Eagles to a hitting percentage of .134. SWOSU had an advantage of 72-to-65 in digs and each team had three blocks. Kaitlyn Dillon led the Dawgs with 19 digs while Klemson Lancaster had 14 and Lindsey McCauley added 11. Avery had a team-best three blocks and Sofia Gruden added two.
 
"This was a good out-of-conference win for our team and good preparation for the conference games we have ahead this weekend," SWOSU Head Coach Josh Collins said. "We showed some fight to come back in the second set, which we needed to see."
 
SWOSU (9-13) has now won five of their last six matches heading into a matchup with No. 16-ranked Arkansas Tech on Friday evening in Russellville.
