Soccer Stays Perfect in GAC with Wet Win over East Central

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After the game was delayed an hour and a half from the original start time due to consistent rain, the Bulldogs finally took the field Sunday against East Central, winning the match 4-0. SWOSU's leading goal scorer Alimata Rabo netted two more goals in the match, while Ashlyn Collier and Mikah Stroh each accounted for one goal each.

In the beginning part of the match, East Central controlled the field position for a majority of the time, despite only managing to take two shots in the first 19 minutes of play. The score was still knotted at 0-0 when Rabo took a pass up midfield from Sandra Nabweteme and ran half the field, beating the ECU goalie for the first point of the match. After the score, the Bulldog attack finally became alive and more aggressive, threatening multiple times but never finding the back of the net. Finally, before halftime in the 43rd minute, Rabo was able to break through and headed a ball in from a floating Collier pass, making it 2-0 going into the locker room.

Early in the second half, the Bulldogs again started slow, trading shots with the Tigers but never scoring. ECU's best scoring chance came in the 60th minute when Deanna Rudasill had an opportunity against SWOSU goalkeeper Courtney Flores, but a hustling Flores was able to block and then contest the shot to keep the shutout alive. In the 73rd minute, Collier finally put the Bulldogs back on the board with a low kick that ramped over the ECU goalkeeper's arms and into the net. Mikah Stroh capped off the scoring in the 87th minute when she took a pass from Nabweteme and scored, extending the lead to 4-0.

This was the Bulldog's fourth shutout of the season, and first in Great American Conference play. SWOSU outshot ECU 19-8 in the match, but only 9-6 on goal. Nabweteme added two assists in the game, leading the team with seven now on the season.

The Bulldogs (5-1-1, 2-0 GAC) will hit the road for their Arkansas portion of the schedule, where they will face Ouachita Baptist on Thursday (Sept. 29) and Harding on Saturday (Oct. 1). SWOSU's next home game is against Southern Nazarene on October 6 at 3 pm.
