EDMOND, Okla. – The Bulldog Soccer team played their first road game of the season Sunday against an undefeated Central Oklahoma squad (3-0), tying the Bronchos with a score of 2-2. Freshman
Alimata Rabo scored both goals for SWOSU late in the game to force extra time but neither team was able to capitalize to take the win.
Â
UCO struck first in the match in the 21st minute, when Katie Killion scored the first and only goal of the first half. The Bulldogs doubled the Broncho's shot total in the half 8-4 but couldn't get a score. SWOSU's best scoring chance came right before halftime in the form of a penalty kick, but
Erica Brunet's shot was saved by the UCO goalkeeper to maintain the Bronchos 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Â
The second half was much of the same for the Bulldogs, taking more shots than UCO but not being able to find the back of the net on anything. Killion scored again for the Bronchos in the 64th minute, extending their lead to 2-0. The outcome was looking grim late in the game when, in the 82nd minute, Rabo took a pass from
Olivia Butler and headed it in for the goal. With just eight minutes remaining in the match, SWOSU trailed 2-1 needing another goal to avoid defeat. That goal came sooner rather than later when Rabo netted her second and most important goal of the match, equalizing the score at 2-2. At the end of regulation the score was tied.
Â
In the first overtime, both teams managed just one shot a piece and at the end of the first extra 15-minute session, the score was still tied. The second overtime was controlled by the Bulldogs who took all six shots in the final 15 minutes, but still couldn't score. In 30 minutes of extra game time neither team was able to net a ball, making the game end in a draw.
Â
The Bulldogs (3-1-1) will play their final non-conference game of the season this Thursday, September 15 against West Texas A&M at 4 pm. The following Tuesday (Sept. 20) SWOSU hits the road for their first Great American Conference match against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva. Â
