WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Bulldog soccer team lost 3-0 to No. 5-ranked Central Missouri Jennies Thursday at the Athletic Complex. SWOSU had opportunities to score but couldn't capitalize despite taking more shots than UCM (20-15).
The Jennies started strong, having the game's first five of six shots on goal that spanned 19 minutes of game time. Their attack put SWOSU on the defensive side of the field for a majority of the first half. In the 33rd minute UCM finally broke through when Baylie Edwards's shot from inside the box fired over the outstretched hands of SWOSU goalkeeper
Courtney Flores. A minute later, UCM struck again when Abby Rhodes ran down the left side and beat Flores, this time to the left side of the net. The Jennies took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half SWOSU came out shooting. The Bulldogs were on the offensive attack much more, taking 16 shots to UCM's 8. UCM's lone second half goal came in the 63rd minute when Alex Harms took a pass from Jada Scott and found the net to stretch the UCM lead to 3-0. In the 67th minute, one of SWOSU's best scoring chances came in the form of a free kick when
Sandra Nabweteme had her shot saved by a jumping UCM goalkeeper. Bulldog forward
Alimata Rabo had many chances of her own, having many of her shots blocked or saved.
The Bulldogs finished with 20 total shots taken, seven on net. UCM finished with 15 shots taken, also having seven of them on net. Rabo led all players with eight shots taken. Flores ended with four saves but allowed three goals to her credit. Jennie's goalkeeper Ana Dilkes collected seven saves throughout the game, blanking the Bulldogs attack.
The loss puts SWOSU at (0-1) on the year. The Bulldogs will play again at home on Saturday against Southwest Baptist out at the Athletic Complex starting at 11 am.
