Lady Bulldogs Start Hot, Hold Off Southern Arkansas

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Three players recorded a double-double and SWOSU never looked back after scoring the first 12 points of the game, defeating Southern Arkansas 98-80 on Saturday afternoon at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
 
The Lady Bulldogs shot 50% from the field in the first half and scored 24 points in the paint as they built a 53-29 lead at the break. Hayden Priddy made her first six shots in the game and had 17 points in the first half while Janae Coffee nearly had a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds in the opening half. SWOSU assisted on 14-of-19 made field goals, with seven of those coming from Priddy.
 
Southern Arkansas battled back in the third quarter, pulling to within nine at 61-52 late in the quarter, but SWOSU finished the quarter on a 10-6 run to push the lead back up to 13 heading to the final period. The Lady Dawgs finished things off with 27 points in the fourth quarter, outscoring SAU by five to push their final margin to 18 and just two points shy of the century mark.
 
"Our defense was much better today and that created better scoring opportunities for us, in the first half especially," SWOSU Head Coach Kelsi Musick said. "We let up in the third quarter but I'm proud of our fight to finish things off, especially when our freshmen are stepping up and leading us very well."
 
The freshmen duo of Hailey Tucker and Hayden Priddy both recorded double-doubles, Tucker with 27 points and 13 rebounds, Priddy with 26 points and 10 assists, to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Janae Coffee also joined the double-double club with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Jessica Penner scored 13 points off the bench, while Jennifer Williams and Morgan Vogt had 10 points apiece.
 
SWOSU (13-8, 9-6 GAC) pulls into a tie with Southern Arkansas for third place in the league standings. They return to action next Thursday at East Central.
