ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Duke Wells Center has been a difficult place for the Lady Bulldogs to earn a victory in Great American Conference play and that trend held true as Henderson State earned an 87-76 victory over SWOSU on Thursday evening.
SWOSU fell behind by as much as 12 in the opening quarter, but
Jennifer Williams helped turn things around and give the Lady Bulldogs a 44-39 lead at halftime. The lead stayed in possession of SWOSU for the majority of the third quarter and
Katie Percival scored two straight baskets late in the quarter, putting SWOSU up 61-59 after three.
Another basket by Percival broke a 65-all tie and put SWOSU up two with 7:03 to play, but Lady Bulldog center
Janae Coffee was whistled for her fifth foul on the ensuing possession and Henderson State outscored SWOSU 7-1 over the next three minutes to regain the lead. Free throws by
Morgan Vogt and a basket by
Hailey Tucker tied the game at 72-72, but HSU closed the game on a 15-4 run to earn the victory.
Four players reached double figures in scoring for SWOSU, led by
Jennifer Williams with 19 points and
Morgan Vogt with 18 points.
Hayden Priddy and
Korina Chapman added 10 points apiece, helping the Lady Bulldog offset the lowest scoring game of the season by their leading scorer,
Hailey Tucker who was limited to four points.
The loss is the second straight setback for SWOSU (17-10, 13-8 GAC) and their third straight defeat against Henderson State in Arkadelphia. The Lady Bulldogs conclude the regular season with a road game at Ouachita on Saturday, with tipoff set for 1:00 pm.
