WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Soccer grinded out a 2-0 victory on Thursday against Southern Nazarene out at the Athletic Complex. Sandra Nabweteme was the only scorer in the match, netting both goals in the second half for the Bulldogs.

During the first half, the teams battled to get shots off thanks to tough defense on both sides. SWOSU only managed to takes four shots in the first half with two of those on goal. SNU took only three shots in the period, one of which was on goal. When teams left the field for halftime, the score was knotted at 0-0.

It didn't take long out of the locker room for the Bulldog attack to wake up. Nabweteme took an Alimata Rabo pass from the far right side to the corner of the box, took a step, shot and fired for the first goal of the match. Both sides went back and forth for the next 17 minutes of game time with nothing doing, until the 63rd minute when SWOSU got on the board again via penalty kick. Rabo chased after a ball on the outskirts of the box attempting to beat the Crimson Storm goalkeeper Natasha Fuentes to it. The two collided, drawing a red card by the referee for Fuentes. Nabweteme lined up to take the penalty kick and knocked it home to extend the lead to 2-0. That was all SWOSU would need, defending all of SNU's scoring opportunities the rest of the game.

With her two goals in the match Nabweteme has scored 14 goals this season, one behind Rabo's NCAA Division II and team leading 15. Nabweteme now ranks second in Division II with her 14 goals scored and fifth with her seven assists. Courtney Flores blanked Southern Nazarene for her and the Bulldog defense's fifth shutout this season.

The Bulldogs (7-2-1, 4-1 GAC) will be back on the field Saturday, October 8 for their home match against Oklahoma Baptist at 1 pm.
