WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The momentum from a thrilling five-set victory over Harding on Friday night carried over into Saturday as the SWOSU Volleyball team defeated league-leading Arkansas Tech 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-22) at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
Carly Zak led the Bulldogs with 19 kills, setting the Great American Conference all-time kills record in the process. Zak now has 1,478 kills in her career, surpassing the previous mark of 1,459 held by Mollie Arnold of Harding. The 19 kills also ties the SWOSU single-game record for kills in a three-set match.
SWOSU hit .252 for the match with 42 kills and just 15 hitting errors, while limiting the Golden Suns to a .112 hitting percentage with 30 kills and 19 hitting errors. The Bulldogs had six service aces, compared to four for ATU and they had a small advantage in digs of 43-to-42. Arkansas Tech did lead SWOSU in blocks 5-to-4.
Kayla Hebert had a match-high 31 assists while
Kaitlyn Dillon recorded a team-best 10 digs for the Bulldogs and
Paige Holt had a team-high four blocks (one solo, three assist).
"What a match. We're really clicking right now, our team is coming together and gelling and it's fun to see," SWOSU Head Coach
Josh Collins said. "We have to keep playing with confidence and building on this momentum and good things can happen for us."
SWOSU (7-13, 5-4 GAC) moves above .500 in conference play and they now play another non-conference match, facing Lubbock Christian on Saturday evening at 6:00 pm.
