Nunez Brace Downs Jets

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Two goals by Samantha Nunez allowed SWOSU to end their non-conference schedule on a high note as the Bulldogs flew past the Jets 2-0 in Weatherford on Saturday afternoon.

Though Newman got the first shot off, it was Nunez who tested the keeper first, with Jets' keeper Kelsi Langley answering with a save. However, Nunez would not be denied, as she put the Bulldogs on top in the 26th minute. Receiving the ball at the top of the box from Cori Kelly, she rounded her defender and curled a low shot into the bottom left corner for her second goal of the season. With the lead, SWOSU pressed their advantage as Eva Rule had a pair of good chances stopped by the opposing netminder.

The Bulldogs' offense came to life in the second half, accounting for 17 shots and eight on goal. Despite several good chances for a host of SWOSU players, it was Nunez who again found the back of the net. She floated to the top of the box to receive the ball before feinting a defender. With space in front of her, Nunez ripped a shot into the lower left corner to double the lead and her tally for the game. The Dawgs continued to press as the game wore on, and cruised to the end of the match and their second win on the bounce.

Courtney Flores enjoyed a quiet outing in goal as she was only called into action on one shot that she was equal to. It was also a second straight clean sheet for her and a young Bulldogs defense.

SWOSU (4-2) return to action next Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 3 PM when they open their conference schedule against in-state rival Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Athletic Complex in Weatherford.
