WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After pulling even with Cameron at 5-5 in the sixth inning, the Bulldog baseball team allowed eight runs over the final three innings of a 13-6 defeat against Cameron on Tuesday afternoon at the Athletic Complex.
SWOSU fell behind 3-0 after the first inning as Cameron loaded the bases and cleared them with a three-run triple, but the Bulldogs battled back and tied the game after scoring single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings. SWOSU took advantage of an error for
Trent Troxell to score an unearned run in the second for their first run and
Jacob Spring came across on a passed ball for another unearned run in the fourth.
A great effort by
CJ Faddis stretched a routine single into a double as he hustled on a short fly ball to leadoff the fifth inning. His efforts were rewarded three batters later as
Haden Houska found daylight on the left side and poked an RBI single into left to tie the game at 3-3. The lead would not last long, however, as Cameron scored two runs on three hits in the sixth to regain a 5-3 lead.
SWOSU again had the answer for the Aggies, replying with two runs of their own on two hits in the bottom of the sixth.
Nolan Barrientos singled to start the inning and was moved to third on a wild pitch and ground out, setting him up to score when
Greg Bruno hit an RBI single back up the middle. Bruno was brought home two batters later as Faddis hit another double and evened the count at 5-5.
The first two batters for Cameron reached base in the seventh inning, setting the stage for a three-run home run that took away all momentum that the Bulldogs had built. By the time the frame was over, the Aggies had extended their lead to 9-5.
Dalton Daniels grounded out with the bases loaded in the eighth, scoring
Mason Marshall from third, but the Bulldogs were unable to get any closer and Cameron tacked on four runs on three hits in the ninth for the final margin.
Faddis went 2-for-3 with one run scored and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs offense, which had eight hits from seven different batters. Five different pitchers saw action for SWOSU with
Ben Schweifurth (0-1) taking the loss after allowing the go-ahead home run in the seventh.
SWOSU will take their 16-27 mark on the road this weekend to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game set in Alva, beginning on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
