Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU fell 10-4 to the visiting Boll Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello in the rubber stamp of their Great American Conference series this afternoon. The Weevils took the series 2-1.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a hot start, plating two runs in the bottom of the first. With
Dalton Daniels in scoring position,
Korbin Polston drilled a ball down the left field line that brought Daniels around to home. Two batters later,
Jacob Spring reached on a fielding error by UAM that plated Polston. SWOSU finished the first inning with a 2-0 lead. Southwestern would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Polston bombed one over the left field fence with
Tyler Rapp also on base.
Holding a 4-0 lead heading into the sixth, SWOSU looked to be lading comfortably. However, the Weevils plated three in the top of the sixth off back-to-back home runs to cut the lead to 4-3. One inning later they brought another runner across home. Disaster struck again in the eighth as UAM doubled their run total in the top of the eighth before tacking on two more insurance runs in their final at-bat. SWOSU was held scoreless from the sixth inning on to give the Boll Weevils the series win.
The Dawgs recorded nine hits in the outing, led by Polston who connected on three of his five at-bats. He also recorded three RBI while recording two runs of his own.
Connor Garcia got the start on the mound saw 5.0 innings of action, striking out three and allowing just one run. SWOSU used a total of six pitchers for the day, and
Ethan Davis took his first loss of the season.
SWOSU fell to 5-7 in conference play as a result of the loss. They return to action next weekend for a three-game series against Southern Nazarene on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14. First pitch on Friday is slated for 2 pm. The team will be hosting an alumni weekend throughout the series.
