ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – One was in the bottom of the seventh and the other ended early as the SWOSU Softball team suffered two defeats at Ouachita Baptist on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs lost the first game 3-2 before OBU exploded offensively for a 12-4 victory in five innings in the night cap.
Ouachita Baptist 3, SWOSU 2Box Score The Tigers scored the first two runs of the game and the final one with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walkoff victory. OBU took the lead with two unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning before SWOSU scored once in the fourth and once in the fifth to knot the score at 2-2.
Adrienne Martinez doubled with one out in the fourth and came across to score on an RBI single from
Maci Brown. SWOSU then used an OBU error for
Sierra Potts to score the game-tying run in the top of the fifth. The Bulldogs had chances in the following innings but stranded one runner apiece in both the sixth and seventh innings.
An error on
Ashley Dunigan allowed a one-out runner to reach base in the bottom of the seventh inning and the runner then stole second before scoring the game-winning run on a single up the middle as the Tigers took game one without scoring an earned run.
Rileigh Ricken (3-7) took the tough-luck loss after tossing a complete game with six hits and three unearned runs against her.
Ouachita Baptist 12, SWOSU 4 (5 inn.)Box Score The momentum from the first game carried over for Ouachita Baptist, who two, four and six runs in each of the first three innings as they built a 12-0 lead after just three frames. SWOSU battled back with four in the fourth but it was not enough to keep the game from ending via run-rule after five innings.
After Brown walked and Dunigan singled, it was
Ashley Filer providing the biggest boost of offense, a three-run home run over the left field fence.
Makensy Payne followed that by drawing a walk and scoring on an RBI double from
Tori Hawk, who finished as the only Bulldog with two hits in the game.
SWOSU held Ouachita Baptist scoreless in the fourth inning, but went in order in the top of the fifth inning to conclude the game.
Laura Wilson (0-1) got the start and faced just three batters but takes the loss with two runs credited against her. Ricken,
Taylor Eaves and
Molly Vivo also saw action in the circle but were unable to slow the Tigers in game two.
The winless streak for SWOSU has now reached 12 games as the Bulldogs drop to 4-18 (0-10 GAC) on the year heading into their last two games against Ouachita Baptist, which will begin at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
