Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Bulldogs had just taken their first lead of the game 6-5 in the top of the ninth before suffering a two-run walk-off home run by AJ Wilson to give Mid-America Christian a 7-6 victory on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Evangels got the scoring going in the first inning, using an RBI single up the middle to take a quick 1-0 lead. MACU doubled their advantage in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly that brought in an additional run.
Headed into the top of the fifth, SWOSU was looking at a 2-0 hole and had recorded just two hits.
Cole Wagner was the leadoff in the inning, and reached on a double down the left field line.
Dalton Daniels then moved him to third after grounding out to shortstop. Into the batter's box stepped
Korbin Polston whose sac fly to left field brought Wagner home to cut the lead in half. However, MACU would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to push the lead to 4-1.
SWOSU scored again in the top of the seventh.
Greg Bruno stepped up to the plate to start of the inning and sent a bomb over the left field fence to once again halve the lead, this time at 4-2. Again, though, the Evangels had the answer with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Bulldogs tied it up in the eighth with three runs. First,
Zach Barton hit a double to right field that brought in
Trent Troxell and moved
Jacob Spring to third. Bruno then reached on a fielder's choice, plating Spring in the process. Barton was thrown out at third.
After reaching first, Bruno stole second and third to move into scoring position. Finally, Wagner reached on fielding error by the Evangels' third baseman that brought in Bruno. SWOSU held MACU without a run in the inning to set up the dramatic finish.
Polston walked to get on base to start off the inning and was then able to reach second on a sac bunt by Troxell. Two batters later, Barton drove in Polston to give SWOSU their first lead of the game. It would not last long however, MACU got the walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 10-14. They will take the field again tomorrow when they face Fort Hays State in non-conference play in Weatherford. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
