Dawgs Shutout on Final Day of SWOSU Round Robin

Box Score (html)

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Softball stranded five runners on base in the first two innings against Washburn and could not recover as the Ichabods took the final game of the SWOSU Round Robin with an 8-0 run-rule victory on Sunday at the Athletic Complex.

Washburn got three consecutive singles in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but SWOSU seemed poised to answer after Ashley Dunigan walked, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, but Miranda McDonald was thrown out stealing second and Dunigan was out at the plate on a squeeze play, leaving the Bulldogs empty handed in their first at-bat.

SWOSU was on the verge of pushing a run across in the second inning as well with Samantha Perry and Dunigan reaching by walks and Courtney Miller taking advantage of an error to load the bases, but McDonald then flied out to left field, ending another Bulldog scoring opportunity.

The Ichabods took advantage of costly Bulldog errors in both the third and fourth errors, exploding for seven runs in the two frames, five of which were unearned. SWOSU was cut down by a double play in the third inning and went in order in the fourth, then needing to score to extend the game. Miller led off the fifth inning with a single to left field, the Bulldogs only hit of the game, and advanced to second on a bunt, but she would be stranded their as the game ended early due to the run-rule.

Taylor Eaves (0-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing eight hits and eight runs in 3.2 innings. Just three of the runs Eaves allowed were earned, however, and she also had two strikeouts along with two walks. Laura Wilson got the final out of the fourth inning before Molly Vivo set the Ichabods down in order in the fifth inning.

The defeat drops SWOSU to 1-5 on the year heading into the Southeastern Regional Invitational next weekend in Durant, where there first opponent will be Washburn on Friday with first pitch of the rematch slated for 12:30 pm.
