MAGNOLIA, Ark. – For the first time since 2012, the Bulldogs won the three-game series over No. 14 Southern Arkansas 2-1. The Bulldogs took the first day of the game 4-1, but were held scoreless in the second game, falling 4-0.

The scoring opened up in the top of the third. With runners on first and second,
Cole Wagner laid down a bunt, but a fielding error on the part of the Muleriders allowed Wagner to reach first.
Dalton Daniels then stepped up to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to left field that plated
CJ Faddis and moved
Mason Marshall and Wagner into scoring position.
Zach Barton followed that out with an RBI of his own to bring in Marshall, but Barton was thrown out at first. The scoring concluded when
Korbin Polston hit an RBI single to left field to bring in Wagner.
Southern Arkansas managed to pull one run back in the bottom of the sixth, but SWOSU restored the three-run lead in the top of the eighth. Daniels led off for the Bulldogs and drove the ball down the right field line for a triple. Barton singled on a hit to left center in the next at-bat and the hit drove in Daniels. Weifenbach fanned four batters in the last two innings, picking up his first save as Garcia earned his first win of the season.
Daniels had a solid game in the batter's box, going 2-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Barton and Marshall combined for a game-high 10 putouts each to lead the Bulldogs in the defensive effort. Garcia and Weifenbach combined to strike out nine batters.
Game 2: #14 SAU 4, SWOSU 0Box Score Despite recording five hits in the Game 3, the Bulldogs were held scoreless by the Muleriders and fell 4-0 in the final game of the series.
Southern Arkansas plated two runs in the bottom of the second, and put another two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth. SWOSU left four runners stranded on base over the course of the game.
Defensively, Barton led the team with another six putouts to push his total to 16 for the day.
Austin Hilton got the start on the hill and saw 5.2 innings of action and recorded four strikeouts, but was saddled with his second loss of the season.
After splitting the final two games of the series, SWOSU moved to 4-5 in the Great American Conference and 6-10 overall. SWOSU will return to action on Tuesday, March 3 with a single game against the University of Science and Arts at 2 p.m.
