Box Score DURANT, Okla. – It was another big day offensively for the Bulldogs, but they fell in extra innings 12-11 to Texas A&M – Kingsville in the final day of the Southeastern Regional Invitational.
The Javelinas got on the board first in the top of the first, but SWOSU was able to respond with a two-run second inning.
Ashley Dunigan used a double that ran along the right field line to plate
Rileigh Ricken and
Samantha Perry. The 2-1 lead was short lived though, as Kingsville responded with a four-run inning in the third before tacking another run on in the top of the fifth.
The Bulldogs exploded for five runs in the fifth, with four different players earning RBIs.
Molly Vivo brought in two by herself on a single that went through the middle of the field. SWOSU racked up six hits in the inning and took a 7-6 lead.
Despite Kingsville responding with a run of their own in the top of the sixth, SWOSU wasn't done yet. This time the Bulldogs plated four, including RBIs from
Kaity Rash and
Tori Hawk as SWOSU finished with another five hits in the inning.
The Javelinas were able to tie the game up in the seventh with four runs, giving the Bulldogs the final at-bat and a chance to seal the win, but it was not meant to be. Southwestern left three runners stranded and the game was headed to extra innings where Kingsville outscored the Bulldogs 1-0 in the eighth to take the game.
Vivo had another fantastic day at the plate recording two hits on three at-bats and driving in three runs. However, she was straddled with her third loss of the season.
Adrienne Martinez had a game-high 11 putouts.
The Bulldogs will open conference play next Saturday, Feb. 21 with a double-header against Arkansas-Monticello. First pitch will be at 1:00 PM.
