2015 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II All-Central Region Women's Soccer Team KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following a pair of standout seasons in 2015,
Samantha Nunez and
Kylee Bertrand were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II All-Central Region women's soccer team, the organization announced Tuesday evening. It is the first time since 2013 that SWOSU Soccer has placed players on the all-region honor team.
Nunez, a senior, earned Second Team All-Central Region honors for the first time to cap a record-setting season and career for the Bulldogs. With 12 goals to her credit in 2015, the Pflugerville, Texas, native rewrote her own program record for goals in a single season. She also became the first Bulldog, and second player ever, to score three goals at the Great American Conference Tournament, earning All-Tournament honors in the process. Nunez will leave the program with career marks of 28 goals and 65 points (28 goals, 9 assists), both of which stand as program records.
Bertrand, a freshman, earned Third Team All-Central Region honors in her debut season for the Bulldogs, becoming the first freshman in program history to be named to an all-region team. The Brampton, Ontario, native was vital to a defense that posted 11 shutouts, the second-most in program history. The central defender started every game this season and played all but 83 of a possible 1,820 minutes of action. Bertrand also provided one assist this season.
SWOSU head coach
Mark Persson has now placed eight players on the NSCAA All-Central Region team, including three first team, three second team and two third team selections.
The Bulldogs completed the 2015 season with a 13-6-1 record and a trip to their third GAC Tournament final in four years. SWOSU enjoyed one the statistically best seasons in program history, scoring the second-most goals (37) and assists (22) in single season, while also posting their fourth-lowest goals-against average (1.19) in program history.
