SWOSU Quickly Downs St. Gregory’s in Event Center Debut

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Carly Zak put down a season-best 15 kills and Kiley Brennfoerder had one of the most efficient matches in SWOSU history as the Bulldogs made quick work of St. Gregory's in the first SWOSU Volleyball match in the new Pioneer Cellular Event Center. SWOSU downs the Cavaliers in three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-18, 25-21.
 
Zak had six kills in a quick opening set as SWOSU hit .242 en route to a runaway 25-8 for the Bulldogs in the first. The hitting improved in the second set as the Bulldogs committed just two hitting errors in 31 attempts and took another quick set despite the best hitting from SGU in the match. Zak added her final five kills in the third set while Brennfoerder stonewalled the Cavaliers at the net with four kills, enabling the Bulldogs to earn their first three-set victory of the season.
 
The Bulldogs hit .202 for the match, behind Brennfoerder, who matched a career-high with seven kills in just 10 attempts without committing a hitting error. She also added five blocks in the match as SWOSU had 10 for the match. Zak had 15 kills and just four hitting errors for a .275 percentage, the highest by a Bulldog this season when putting down 12 or more kills.
 
Joey Collins matched Brennfoerder with seven kills and added a game-high 19 digs and one block while Kaila Lancaster recorded 12 digs from her libero position. Brandy Mader had another strong match, directing SWOSU with 33 assists to go along with seven digs, four blocks and two kills.
 
The win is the second consecutive victory for the Bulldogs, improving their record to 2-4 after two weeks of play. SWOSU will be back in action next Tuesday, hosting East Central for their first home conference match in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center. That match will begin at 7:00 pm.
