Lady Dawgs Ride Second Half Surge to Victory over Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – The Lady Bulldogs rode a second half surge for 47 points to defeat Cameron 82-68 in Lawton, Okla., at the Aggie Gym in the third of four straight road games.
 
Korina Chapman opened the game with a 3-point basket with the first shot of the game. Cameron countered by going on a 10-3 run soon after to lead 10-6 with 14:49 remaining in the first half. They would lead by as many as six points until a Kimmi Sawatzy basket from behind the arc gave SWOSU a 26-25 lead with just under five minutes left to play. Cameron would immediately take the lead back, going up 30-28 before SWOSU closed out the half on a 7-0 run to lead 35-30 with a Jade Jones jumper with five seconds left capping off the run.
 
The teams would play close after the interval, with Cameron pulling as close as 43-41 with 13:39 left to play. SWOSU finally gained a comfortable lead with six minutes remaining, going up 64-52. Their lead would balloon to as much as 16 points over the final six minutes of the game, running out 82-68 winners.
 
Jessica Penner enjoyed a monster game, scoring a team-high 21 points on 9-14 shooting and grabbing seven rebounds. Sawatzky recorded 20 points for the second straight game, while Chapman (18) and Jones (11) also finished in double digits. The team as a whole enjoyed their best shooting percentage from the field this season, knocking down 51.9 percent of their shots, including 43.8 percent from range.
 
The Lady Dawgs also enjoyed a slight 30-29 rebounding edge over the Aggies. They capitalized on their offensive rebounds, outscoring Cameron 7-4 in second chance points. The SWOSU bench also outscored the opponent 11-8 thanks to Jones' career-high scoring output.
 
"It was great to come back to my alma mater and get the W. We stuck to our defensive game plan and executed our zone offenses we implemented and played together as a team," said Head Coach Kelsi Musick. "I am very proud of our effort and camaraderie today."

SWOSU completes their road swing this coming Monday, December 8 when they travel to Tahlequah, Okla., to take on Northeastern State at 6 PM.
